Using Facebook Subscriber List to Build Your Small Business

Not many people were fond of the Facebook Timeline update 2011; however, if you think from business perspective, creating a subscriber list is useful after all.

How to Start Building Subscriber List?

If you have the Timeline feature activated, you can located the Subscriber space on the Profile page. Click on that and switch it “ON”. Adjust the settings too.

FB Subscriber List

No one can see my subscriber list except me. I did this for privacy reasons.

104 Subscribers without Doing Anything

104 is the number of subscribers on my list at the time of writing this. I “made” this list WITHOUT doing anything:

  • No promotions.
  • No telling strangers to subscribe.
  • No spending money.
  • No incentives for subscribing.

This list is fully genuine – isn’t that what all marketers want? Nevertheless, there is a glitch, which I will explain after some time.

Are FB friends Your Subscribers too?

YES. Once you activate the Subscriber button, all existing friends and future ones are automatically added to this list.

The FB profile shows this list as separate. See the screenshot.

Subscriber Profile Screenshot

Notice, it mentions 104 Public Subscribers & 599 Friend Subscribers, totaling 703 people with whom I can engage in marketing.

Is Marketing to FB Subscriber List Legal?

By definition, “Subscriber” means to give consent or to “opt – in”. Genuine marketers graciously use opt-in forms to make this list; and here you are getting golden eggs without making any substantial effort or spending money.

Hence, mailing to this subscriber list IS legal. You are not violating anyone’s privacy unless you sell this list, which will be unethical.

How do you Use this List?

If you are selling some valuable services or promoting any product, this will be a good list to start with. Just load the subscriber list to Alpha email marketing software and start making money online.

Only Glitch – Sex Crazed Men and Women

In your public subscriber you will often find people – men and women – who just want to have a “fun time”, posting indecent images and videos. Weed these people regularly. Since you don’t have control over who subscribes to you, your only option is to unsubscribe them every 10-15 days.

Frankly, unless you are selling adult products, such public subscribers are a nuisance so get rid of them.

Small business owners can really utilize this list for their benefit.

Any questions? Or trouble using Subscribers? Ask me.

Thanks for explaining how to organically grow a list via social media. The question I have front-of-mind is: is this a sound long term strategy… do you actually own the list if it is generated through Facebook? Do you know?

      Hi,

See the list you generate from the “subscribers” option is really “yours” and that too legally because people are willingly subscribing to your updates.

So its not wrong if you use that list for promotion.

Whether it will give long term or short term benefits depends entirely on your objective – your business :)

      Hope this helps :)
